One wheelset for fast road and gravel, built around Venn’s own hub. The 5028 TCD SL rim pairs a 50mm aero profile with a 28mm internal bed, sized for 35mm to 50mm tires, laced with Sapim CX-Ray spokes to the Helix-01 hubs.
72T helical engagement: no free play under power.
The Venn Helix-01 hub engages the way a bolt tightens: the harder you pedal, the tighter its two ratchet rings lock together. 72 teeth engage within 5 degrees, and under power there is no play left to take up, out of the saddle, sprinting or on a steep gravel climb.
Built to roll under load.
Beside its two 6902 bearings, the rear hub runs a 41.5mm nano-coated angular contact bearing. A bicycle hub is loaded awkwardly: every pedal stroke, sprint and rough road pushes on its bearings from the side as well as from above. Ordinary cartridge bearings spin freely in the hand, but under those side loads their friction rises. An angular contact bearing is made for side loads, so it keeps rolling smoothly as you ride, and this one is large enough to take hard knocks well within its rating. The shell is cold forged, the 15mm axle is 7075-T6 aluminium, and the ratchets are forged and CNC machined SCM 415 steel.
Wide enough for gravel, deep enough for the road.
At 36mm across its widest point the 5028 rim carries a wide tire cleanly, and the 28mm internal bed lets you run it at low pressure for grip and comfort on loose ground. Fifty millimetres of depth keeps it quick on tarmac. The hooked bead takes tubeless and clincher tires alike.
Sapim CX-Ray spokes, 24 front and rear.
The benchmark bladed steel spoke on race wheels: light, aero, and any shop anywhere can true or replace one. Twenty-four at each end spread the load for rough roads and loaded rides. Tubeless ready, with tubeless tape and valves included.
No clear coat, your choice of surface.
The rim carries no clear coat, whichever surface you choose: gloss, matte, or the 25k filament wound pattern. Leaving the coating off keeps weight off the rim, where it costs the most, and leaves the carbon on open display. Gloss and matte weigh the same; the 25k surface adds 25 g per rim. All three cost the same.

FAQ
In a normal ratchet hub the pawls or rings are pushed into engagement by springs alone, and a little play remains between the teeth. The Helix-01 engages the way a bolt tightens: the more force you put through the pedals, the firmer the two ratchet rings press together, so your power goes into the wheel at once. Under power there is no free play.

All three use the same 5028 rim. The 5028 S runs Sapim CX-Ray steel spokes on Venn RH05SL ratchet hubs with sealed steel bearings, for 1270g. The 5028 C SL saves 80g with carbon aero blade spokes and S&S ceramic bearings, for 1190g. The 5028 HE1 runs Venn’s own Helix-01 hubs with 72-tooth helical engagement, for 1380g.
It is a matter of taste. Gloss and matte are bare carbon without a clear coat and weigh the same; the 25k surface shows a woven pattern and adds 25 g per rim. All three cost the same.
