The Venn 2430 S AM 32″: a complete 32-inch trail wheelset on 24mm deep hookless carbon rims, 1330g a pair.
The Venn 2430 THL AM 32″, our trail (all-mountain) rim, 24mm deep with a 30mm internal bed, laced 28 front and 28 rear with Pillar PSR 1420 bladed steel spokes and built by hand. Choose Boost hubs or 12 x 100 / 12 x 142.
Why 32 inches.
A bigger wheel meets a root, a rut or a stone at a shallower angle, so it rolls over what a smaller wheel has to climb, and it holds its speed on rough ground.
Thirty millimetres inside, hookless.
The 30mm internal bed holds a trail tire close to its moulded shape, so the tread blocks stand square and the side knobs bite when you lean the bike. The bed is hookless: there is no thin hook lip at the rim edge, so the sidewall can be laid up thicker where impacts land. Run tubeless tires approved for hookless rims and stay within the hookless pressure limit of 5 bar (72.5 psi).
Pillar PSR 1420 bladed steel spokes.
A steel spoke yields slightly under a hit and comes back, taking energy out of an impact before the rim has to absorb all of it. The bladed profile is light and narrow, and any shop, anywhere, can source, true or replace one. Twenty-eight in each wheel spread trail loads and braking torque, so no single spoke carries an outsized share.
Boost, or 12 x 100 / 12 x 142.
Boost hubs with a 12 x 148 rear and a 15 x 110 or 12 x 100 front, or 28-hole hubs on 12 x 100 and 12 x 142 thru axles. Both weigh in at 1330g a pair, turn on sealed steel bearings and take a Center Lock rotor.
No clear coat, your choice of surface.
The rim carries no clear coat, whichever surface you choose: gloss, matte, or the 25k filament wound pattern. Gloss and matte weigh the same; the 25k surface adds 25 g per rim. All three cost the same.
