The simplest way to go faster is to ride on a good pair of wheels and the hubs are the crucial element. The Velotechnic DS1 is engineered around attributes of Strength, Stability, Stiffness and Smoothness – for the best riding experience and making quality affordable to more riders.

Front hub
While they are consider simpler to design, the front hub is still crucial to achieve wheel stiffness and stability. These qualities can be felt during cornering, hard sprints or off-the-saddle climbs.
On the front, we design the DS1 with a 15mm diameter hardened axle to avoid flex. The distances & the P.C.D. of the flanges provide wide bracing spoke angles for overall wheel stiffness and stability. Precise hub adjustment can be achieve with the pre-load threaded collar to optimise bearing stiffness. Overall the front DS1 also encompass a thicker hub shell for added strength and stiffness.
Rear hub
Taking the brunt of the loads, we have to look in depth on how a rear hub (and wheel) handles different forces laterally, radially with high torques along with the rider’s weight. At the same time we do not want the rear hub to be too heavy. It has to be functional and excel in Strength, Stability, Stiffness & Smoothness and not pointlessly light weight. The DS1 rear hub flanges dimensions provides one of the best bracing angle vs tension ratio for a rear wheel’s stiffness. The use of high static load bearings, hardened axle with varying diameters along with an almost weightless sleeve bearing will stop freehub cantileverings.
Our signature magnetic pawls drive creates one of the lowest drag with near immediate engagement. We always explained that “ceramic bearings are not necessary” because most of the drag originated from the drive mechanism and not the bearings (Take note of that). Precise hub adjustment can be achieve with the pre-load threaded collar to optimise bearing stiffness.
Our design has made a breakthrough using conventional pawls and ratchet ring with one of the lowest rear hub’s drag – in the world.
